2.0 out of 5 stars from Dianne -- Where is Ms. Hilderbrand? : Normally, I would not bother writing a 2 star review. However, there are so many Hilderbrand readers that I wanted them to know that this book is not what you would expect from her. I have always much preferred her books set on Nantucket, but as I had read the first two books in the "paradise series," I wanted to know how it all ended. The writing style is so different from the usual - is she emulating USA Today, James Patterson? The characters are flat with no depth, no development. It is all facts, name dropping of places on St. John, superficial plot filled with romantic angst, which all ended up as predictable. Perhaps if you had visited St John, you would appreciate the locale. I didn't feel as though I had been there. This is about what I expected, but it was disappointing nonetheless and fairly costly as that. If I had not read 28 Summers recently, I would have thought that Ms. Hilderbrand had lost her muse. That book, however, was a delight, a worthy addition to her long list of books. I hope she ditches this staccato plot driven style and returns to giving the reading something to feel, to remember, and to empathize with her characters and their situations. The first two books were great, interesting, engaging characters, and beautiful descriptions of the island of St. John. I was so captivated, i pre-ordered Trouble In Paradise as soon as it became available. Very excited to receive it and was enjoying the first half of the book and then it seemed the author either lost her way or just phoned it in after the required number of contracted pages were written. The ending was rushed and careless ( what happened to Bakers school moms? Why in Gods name did Cash throw his integrity out the window? Why did Ayers become an afterthought to the ending when she was one of the focal characters? ) if this indeed was, as one reviewer speculated a setup for a “ Maia” series, I’m saving my money. Ms. Hilderbrand is a much better writer than was evidenced in this book. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 10, 2020 )

There was no suspense, when there were plenty of ways it could have created more of a plot line. 3.0 out of 5 stars from auntjam -- Disappointing : I really liked the first two books of this trilogy, but this book seemed like the author thought she needed to write a trilogy and added this one. The first of the book was ok, but then the rest seemed like someone else was writing the book. Very disappointing. As I read this book, I kept waiting and hoping for something to happen and then get it over with. It feels like she was rushed because there is a lot of useless information that doesn't flow from the two previous books and then in one small chapter she wraps it all up in a package with a bow and then drones on and on about a hurricane!!!! As usual the booK has lots of drama with the characters And we find out what finally happens to Russell, Huck, Irene, Cash etc with a few twists thrown in along the way, as usual lots of references to food, drink and places to go on St Johns. Elin’s style is gossipy and warm and there aren’t any characters you don’t like (unless you are supposed to dislike them). All three books were heartwarming and I was sad to say goodbye to the people in them.
